I've been trying to teach myself guitar this year using Tablature. I started in the winter, ignored it in the summer and have been practicing again as summer winds down and I have the house to myself. I've been butchering Needle in the hay by Elliott Smith. Its mostly two string strumming, but I mess up the order of the chords. My guitar is louder than my laptops speakers so its hard to play along. I've also been trying Sweet Adeline and St. Ides Heaven by Smith too. I've figured out the intros but after that - the chords, I get lost and my fingers aren't strong enough.
I've ventured into some John Lennon stuff, but its like another dimension, even stuff I thought was simple.
Tonight I've been trying Beatles stuff. No luck yet. But I've been slowly following tablature for Day Tripper.
Not a big deal if you've been playing a long time, or have a teacher and all that, but its enough for me to enjoy and feel creative - even though I'm learning by copying.
